The Soul of Seine (December 2025)



Premise:

The Soul of Seine is a 2D platformer that follows Thames, an otter who recently lost the love of his life. Though still processing his grief, he sets forth on a journey to safely escort Seine’s soul to the local temple where she will finally be free to move on to the afterlife. While on this ambitious quest, Thames encounters various obstacles like enemy beavers and shooting vines that pose the risk of shattering Seine’s soul, dooming her spirit to the river grotto.


Role:

This was a solo project that I worked on over the course of the 2025 Fall semester for my Game Development I class.

Contributions:

  • Wrote and created the premise and various letters that the player can find from Seine.
  • Programmed everything, from the main menu screen to the shooting vines and beaver enemies.
  • Created the 2D assets for the game, including the player/enemy sprites and and environmental artwork.
  • Designed the flow of the level, including the alternate paths the player can take in order to gain more health or find collectible notes from Seine.

The first letter that Seine writes after being diagnosed with a fatal illness. This note reveals Seine’s acceptance and acknowledgement of her eventual demise while also highlighting Thames’ loyalty and fixer nature, showing the love and delicate relationship these two characters share.

The second letter from Seine to Thames that shows how her illness has progressed and started to effect her physically and mentally. Additionally, this note reinforces their mutual affection, focusing on how they are going through this trauma together every step of the way.

The final letter from Seine that details how she is now in the hospital and quickly losing her battle with this disease. This letter shows Seine’s undying love for Thames and how despite accepting her own death, she is still worried about how it will affect him.
